Eric & The Soo’s latest single, the contemplative “Moneytown” examines the loneliness of a man stuck in the hamster wheel of corporate life. The scene is set against the backdrop of an ever changing urban landscape, where history and charm give way to gentrification and corporatization. Our favourite restaurants, bars, and “mom and pop” shops give way to condos, and chain restaurants. In the process, our beloved city loses pieces of its soul. And we lose a part of our soul, and a part of our history too. The brooding lyrics are backed by upbeat instrumentation giving the song a poignant, introspective feel.
